Each month, Otus Live in Care is highlighting the work of a charity.   This month we are featuring the tremendous work at the MS Society.  We have many Clients who have Multiple sclerosis (MS) to whom we provide live in care and respite care throughout the UK, hence we have chosen to feature a Multiple sclerosis charity this month .

More than 100,000 people in the UK have multiple sclerosis and far greater proportion of women diagnosed tham men. Commonly people are diagnosed when in their twenties or thirties. MS is a disease affecting the central nervous system, the spinal cord and brain. MS has a high degree of complexity and is also an unpredictable disease, following different patterns in each person, with symptoms very much varying from day to day. Some people have relapses followed by periods of complete or partial remission. Whilst for others, it can be more progressive in its nature. Unfortunately there is no cure for MS, however some of the symptoms of MS can be treated.

The MS Society can offer support on a number of levels emotional, practical, financial and also advise on care and support for family members. They also have support groups located throughout the UK and use social media to promote the charity and support networks. They spend a great deal of effort on fundraising, awareness raising and importantly funding reaseach into MS. The charity has funded research worth £133 million and so invested in world class MS research since 1956. It provides grants and it campaigns for change in all aspects related to MS. Probably its most vital investment is the support for its MS specialists and those in the charity that have lend a listening ear to those who need it. You can find out a great deal more about the work and how to support the charity carry out at http://www.mssociety.org.uk.

Otus Live in Care can provide respite care based in your home while you are away on holiday or it can mean that a loved one can travel with you with the support of a Personal Carer; the choice is yours. Our respite service provides planned short-term breaks, normally for a week or more. We can fit the service to your needs and requirements. The benefits of respite are twofold to the caregiver and to the person requiring care. Respite care is a positive experience for all concerned. We make sure that the Personal Carers selected have the correct skills, experience and shared interest as the person requiring care. The benefits are significant in having care in your own home because it is an environment in which you are familiar, comfortable and reassuring. Another possible added benefit is that the person requiring care doesn’t become totally reliant on family or friends.

A more permanent solution that Otus Live in care can provide it is a great way to allow continued quality of life and is a modern solution for our MS Clients . It provides permanent assistance for 24 hours, seven days a week or for just a few weeks or maybe a few days to assist with recovery after illness . It offers support to those who want to remain living in their own home independently knowing that they have the security of someone living with them and can also provide companionship.

As a quality provider of live in care, it’s vital that we spend a great deal of time finding people with the right skills, training and experience before then introducing them to our Clients or their representatives. To emphasise the importance at Otus the Managing Director personally interviews and meets every Personal Carer prior to them being engaged by a Client to ensure the quality of personal carers. Our key objective is to recruit only competent, dedicated, warm individuals whose first objective is the care and well-being of each client .Treating clients as they would wish their own loved ones to be treated is the benchmark of our service.
